I’m Eliza Callard, a children’s book artist and freelance editorial illustrator.
Drawing and telling stories has been a life-long love for me. When I was a girl, my best friend and I would write and draw and use stamps to create 3×5 card stapled stories about rabbits and our box turtles, Frances (mine) and Spots.
I’ve illustrated other authors’ children’s books, The Friendship Umbrella by Jennifer Bleecher and Gnorman the Gnome by Kimberly Kester.
I work on both traditional methods, like watercolor and collage, and use Procreate for digital work. My watercolors often have a high degree of granulation, giving a rich and unique appearance to characters and backgrounds. My digital work is also colorful and cheery.
I live in my beloved neighborhood of Germantown in Philly, nurtured by both a gritty urban landscape and a surprisingly vast wooded park a short walk away from home.
